The Virginia Lottery and the Washington Redskins today launched the much-anticipated $50,000,000 Redskins Mania scratch ticket.
The scratch ticket, the first NFL team-themed scratcher ticket from an NFC East team available for purchase, offers football and lottery fans alike the chance to instantly win from $20 up to $1 million by scratching to win. The Redskins Mania ticket will include a second chance drawing feature in which players can enter non-winning tickets at valottery.com for the chance to win these amazing Redskins VIP experiences:
* Win pairs of Redskins Premium Club tickets for 20 years at FedExField * VIP away game Travel with the team to Dallas, on the team plane and team bus, as the Redskins take on the Cowboys in Dallas, TX on November 22, 2009 * Win pairs of Redskins Premium Club tickets for the 2010 season at FedExField * Watch a Redskins home game in a FedExField luxury suite with 19 of your favorite friends * Watch and attend a private Redskins team practice from the sidelines, just as the coaches do * Once-in-a-lifetime chance to join the Redskins team roster as a “Player for a Day” * Other prizes include: Redskins Premium Club seats for 2009 games, autographed helmets by the player of your choice, $500 Redskins gift cards and official game-worn jerseys
“The Virginia Lottery hopes the new Redskins Mania ticket will encourage new Lottery players to `get in the game,`” said Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula I. Otto. “This ticket is a win-win for the Virginia Lottery and the Washington Redskins, as we expect this ticket to generate millions in profits for K-12 public schools.”
“We are very excited about the partnership with the Virginia Lottery,” said Mitch Gershman, Chief Operating Officer of the Redskins. “We are offering unique prizes, giving our fans a great opportunity to be winners. In addition, we are proud to be a part of this important program, which generates money for Virginia’s public schools.”
The Redskins Mania scratch tickets will be exclusively sold in Virginia by nearly 5,000 Virginia Lottery retail outlets beginning August 3. Redskins fans will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets during Redskins Training Camp at Redskins Park in Ashburn, Virginia, August 4, 5, 6 and 8, 2009. The Virginia Lottery is also giving away free Redskins merchandise with a purchase at training camp.
“We are excited this ticket and the football season are finally here,” said Joe Roadcap, owner of Handy Dandy Market in Woodbridge and a life-long Redskins fan. “All of the Virginia Lottery’s retailers now have Redskins Mania!”
Redskins Mania tickets are $20 and the cash prizes offered are similar to other Virginia Lottery tickets at that price point. The odds of winning $1 million are 1 in 1,305,600. The odds of winning any cash prize are 1 in 2.78. Odds of winning the Redskins second-chance prizes are based on the number of entries. As with all Virginia Lottery products, profits from Redskins Mania will go to K-12 public schools in the Commonwealth. The chances of winning a prize through the Redskins Mania ticket are in no way related to the team’s performance on the field, and the outcome of the Lottery games has no relationship with the outcome of the Redskins games.
Lucky fans who become finalists in the second-chance drawing for the Dallas trip will go on the field at halftime during the Redskins vs. Eagles game on October 26, 2009 to learn the results. Similarly, fan finalists for the “season tickets for 20 years” prizes will appear at halftime during the Redskins vs. Giants game on December 21, 2009.
Nearly 95 cents of each dollar spent on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the Commonwealth in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retailer commissions. Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In that time, the Lottery has turned over more than $4 billion for Virginia’s public schools. The latest annual profits of $455 million currently represent about 6 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia. In 20 years, the Lottery has sold more than $20 billion in tickets, awarded more than $1 billion in retailer commissions and paid more than $10.9 billion in prizes to players.
