August 27, 2009
When Natalie Wright of Louisa plays Virginia Lottery games, she often just picks a random game.
“Whatever catches my eye, that’s what I play,” she told Lottery officials.
Now she has something that’s more than just a little eye-catching of her own: a brand-new 2009 Corvette® Convertible. She won it in the Virginia Lottery’s Corvette® Cash Scratcher game. She bought the winning ticket at LJ’s Market, located at 5815 Three Notch Road in Trevilians.
“When I first saw it, I didn’t realize it was a winner,” she said. “Afterward, I was calling people and telling them I won a car!”
On August 27, Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto handed Ms. Wright the keys to her new ’Vette at Herndon Chevrolet in Orange.
The Corvette® Cash Scratcher game features cash prizes up to $100,000 – and an additional six lucky scratch winners will receive the keys to a brand-new 2009 Corvette®.
That’s not all. Players can submit non-winning tickets for a second chance to win two additional Corvettes®, or exciting Corvette® merchandise prize packs, each of which includes a Corvette® leather jacket, cap, sunglasses, duffel bag and key chain. A total of 1,410 prize packs will be awarded in two drawings. A ninth ’Vette will be awarded during the Virginia Tech – Nebraska football game on September 19 at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg.
Ms. Wright is the first of six “instant-wins,” meaning players will scratch a ticket to reveal a Corvette® prize.
The Lottery is also taking Corvette® Cash on the road this summer, with special appearances at events across the Commonwealth. At those special events, players can enter the “Corvette® Lovers Summer Fun Sweepstakes” by buying four Corvette® Cash tickets to receive an entry form. Out of those entries, three finalists will be drawn to have a chance to win the ninth ’Vette at Lane Stadium.
For more information, including how to enter non-winning tickets in the second-chance drawings, visit www.valottery.com. The odds of scratching to win a Corvette® or one of three $100,000 cash prizes are 1 in 462,400. The odds of winning any prize in the Corvette® Cash game are 1 in 4.44.
Nearly 95 cents of each dollar spent on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the Commonwealth in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retailer commissions. Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In that time, the Lottery has turned over more than $4 billion for Virginia’s public schools. The latest annual profits of $455 million currently represent about 6 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia. In 20 years, the Lottery has sold more than $20 billion in tickets, awarded more than $1 billion in retailer commissions and paid more than $10.9 billion in prizes to players.
Please play responsibly.
