Virginia Beach Man Wins $1,000 Per Week For Life

September 3, 2009

When Felizardo Rogayan of Virginia Beach discovered that the Win For Life ticket in his hand won the grand prize, he went straight to his car, got in and locked the door.

“Then I cried and I shouted!” he later told Virginia Lottery officials.

The ticket matched the first six numbers in the August 26, 2009, drawing to win $1,000 per week for the rest of his life.

He bought the winning ticket at Diamond Springs Citgo, located at 1560 Diamond Springs Road in Virginia Beach. The store also received a $10,000 bonus for selling a top-prize Win For Life ticket.

The winning numbers for that drawing were 2-11-13-16-17-33. The Free Ball was 28, but it wasn’t needed to win. The numbers on the ticket were selected using Easy Pick.

Mr. Rogayan, who works as a machine operator, said he plans to use his winnings to pay off his mortgage and take care of his family.

Win For Life drawings are held Wednesday and Saturday nights at 11:00. The chances of winning the top prize are 1 in 5,245,786. Other prizes in the game range from $2 to $52,000.

Nearly 95 cents of each dollar spent on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the Commonwealth in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retailer commissions. Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In that time, the Lottery has turned over more than $4 billion for Virginia’s public schools. The latest annual profits of $455 million currently represent about 6 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia. In 20 years, the Lottery has sold more than $20 billion in tickets, awarded more than $1 billion in retailer commissions and paid more than $10.9 billion in prizes to players.
