Lawrence Carroll of Keyport, New Jersey, visits Virginia often, especially his wife’s former hometown of Norfolk. When he visited Harborfest in Norfolk over the Fourth of July weekend, he played the Virginia Lottery’s Corvette Cash Scratcher game and entered the Corvette Lovers Summer Fun Sweepstakes. When he visited Blacksburg on September, he won a 2009 Corvette® Convertible.
“It was unbelievable!” he told Lottery officials. “I’ve always loved Corvettes. I could not believe I won one!”
Mr. Carroll was one of three finalists who took the field at Lane Stadium during halftime of the Virginia Tech – Nebraska game. Each of the finalists selected a keyless remote, one of which was the actual remote for that Corvette. When he pressed the button, the lights went on and the horn sounded. He was the winner.
“I can’t describe the feeling,” he said. “It’s my first brand new car.”
Because of his experience on the field in Blacksburg, Mr. Carroll said he is now “definitely a Hokie fan.”
The other two finalists, William Spittle of Suffolk and Scotty Batten of Dyke, each received $500.
The Corvette® Cash Scratcher game features cash prizes up to $100,000 – and a total of nine lucky winners receive the keys to a brand-new 2009 Corvette®. Six of those winners are from scratch tickets, two are from non-winning tickets drawn in second chance drawings, and the ninth ’Vette is the one that Mr. Carroll won.
Those second chance drawings also included 1,410 exciting Corvette® merchandise prize packs, each including a Corvette® leather jacket, cap, sunglasses, duffel bag and key chain.
The odds of scratching to win a Corvette® or one of three $100,000 cash prizes are 1 in 462,400. The odds of winning any prize in the Corvette® Cash game are 1 in 4.44.
Nearly 95 cents of each dollar spent on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the Commonwealth in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retailer commissions. Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In that time, the Lottery has turned over more than $4 billion for Virginia’s public schools. The latest annual profits of $439.1 million currently represent about 6 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia. In 21 years, the Lottery has sold more than $21.1 billion in tickets, awarded more than $1.1 billion in retailer commissions and paid more than $11.6 billion in prizes to players.
Please play responsibly.
