A prize winner was selected from eight (8) regions within the state of Virginia for a total of eight (8) Grand Prize winners. Entries not selected are entered into a drawing for one of three secondary prizes.

To be eligible, entries must have been received by March 6, 2009.

Eight (8) Grand Prize Winners will receive a prize consisting of a $2,000 credit with The Supply Room Companies to outfit their classrooms and $2,000 from the Virginia Lottery.

Three (3) Secondary Prize Winners will receive a $500 gift card supplied by the Virginia Lottery valid wherever major credit cards are accepted.

 

Eight (8) Grand Prize Winners were selected by a panel of distinguished Virginia educators and community leaders, including:

  • Dr. Billy Cannaday, Jr., Dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at UVA, former State Superintendent for Public Instruction
  • Dr. Jo Lynne DeMary, Director, Center for School Improvement, VCU School of Education, former State Superintendent for Public Instruction
  • Hon. Jim Dyke, Partner McGuire Woods, former Secretary of Education for Virginia
  • Melissa Nehrbass, President of the Virginia PTA
  • Hon. Ruby W. Rogers, former Member of the Virginia Board of Education
  • Richard E. Williams, Jr., Deputy Director of the Virginia Lottery

Three (3) Secondary Prize Winners were randomly selected on May 29, 2009.

The 3 winners, who each receive a $500 Visa gift card, are provided below:


Roberta Benjamin, A teacher at Clermont Elementary School in Alexandria has been selected as a Secondary Prize Winner.

George Griswold, A teacher at Chantilly Academy in Fairfax has been selected as a Secondary Prize Winner.

Donna West, A teacher at W.T. Woodson School in Springfield has been selected as a Secondary Prize Winner.


The Super Teacher Awards were designed to honor outstanding Virginia public school teachers for their dedication and commitment. The Lottery seeks to pay tribute to those educators who go the extra mile each and every day to serve their students and their communities.
