Art Contest winners announced!

The sixth annual Virginia Lottery Thank a Teacher Art Contest ran from November 14, 2022, through January 31, 2023. During that time, the Lottery received nearly 700 submissions, and, from those submissions, a panel of judges selected three winners: one each from elementary, middle and high school. In March, the Lottery surprised each of the winners at school. Check out the video below to see those surprise presentations.

The winners of the sixth annual Thank a Teacher Art Contest are:

elementary winner

Elementary: Leah Salzberg, 5th grader at Brownsville Elementary School in Albemarle County

middle school winner

Middle: Allie Beatley, 7th grader at Grafton Middle School in York County

high school winner

High: Vaidehi Murthy, 10th grader at Deep Run High School in Henrico County

Each winner received a Visa® gift card from the Virginia Lottery. The winning designs will be featured on thousands of thank-you notes that will be sent to teachers across Virginia as part of this year’s Thank a Teacher campaign. Each winning school’s art department also received $1,000 from the Lottery and $1,000 from The Supply Room.

Now that April is here, the Virginia Lottery is encouraging people across the commonwealth to send personalized thank-you notes to their K-12 public school teachers as part of the Thank a Teacher campaign. Teachers will receive their notes during Teacher Appreciation Week, which is May 8 – 12, 2023, and can use a unique code included on each note to enter for a chance to win a Virginia vacation, a gift card and $2,500 in supplies for the teacher’s school.

Visit thankateacherva.com to send a digital thank-you note. Hard-copy notes are available and can be requested by schools and PTAs.
